Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has implemented new scheme of continuous and comprehensive evaluation in class IX from the 2009-2010 and in class X too from next session i.e. 2010-2011.

In this new grading scheme, CBSE will not take board exam for class X and a Certificate of School Based Assessment will be issued by the school authorities as per the guidelines given by CBSE.

What is CCE

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) refers to a system of school-based evaluation of students that covers all aspects of students development. It is a developmental process of assessment which emphasizes on two fold objectives. These objectives are continuity in evaluation and assessment of broad based learning and behaviourial outcomes on the other.

2nd Summative Assessment Class IX

Conduct of Class-IX March 2010 Examination under Summative Assessment-II -

Under this end term Summative Assessment-II, the students will be tested internally based on the following criteria:-

a) Syllabus and Examination Question Paper Design in different subjects for Class IX Summative Assessment II will be the same as circulated by the Board earlier. The same is also available on CBSE website www.cbse.nic.in under CCE corner.

b) The Summative assessment will be in the form of a pen-paper test conducted by the schools themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CCE mean frequent tests and assignments?

The term continuous in CCE refers to periodicity and regularity in assessment. It does not mean that tests and assignments have to be conducted or given frequently. On the contrary, the scheme of CCE discourages mechanical testing. It envisages employment of variety of tools and techniques for assessment in informal and formal settings which are more interesting, relevant and meaningful and involve learners for greater participation and learning.
